A biomedical study involving 105 infants in India found that babies residing in households with moderate to high exposure to wireless radiation—such as from Wi-Fi routers/boosters, cell phones, and nearby cell towers—tended to show poorer development in fine motor skills, communication, and problem-solving abilities compared to infants in homes with lower radiation levels.
👶 Wireless Radiation and Infant Development: A Growing Concern
A recent peer-reviewed study found that infants living in homes with elevated levels of wireless radiation—found in most every home—were over three times more likely to experience delays in problem-solving and nearly three times more likely to show fine motor skill impairments compared to those in low-exposure environments.
📢 Without a doubt, this data is a wake-up call to both parents and pediatricians. When a child’s normal development is compromised by something as common as a baby monitor, nearby antenna or router, for example, it’s time for parents to take action to reduce this risk.
🧠 According to the study’s authors, children are significantly more vulnerable to wireless radiation than adults due to their developing nervous systems and higher water and ion content in brain tissue. This makes their brains more susceptible to the energy emitted by devices like cell phones.
“About twice as much mobile phone energy is absorbed in the peripheral brain tissues of children as compared to adults,” said the study authors who are OB/GYN’s, pediatricians, epidemiologists and a biochemist.
🗓️ The peer-reviewed study was published on July 10 in Cureus, a journal under Springer Nature. Researchers assessed the level of radiation in homes using a professional-grade Narda SRM-3006 Selective Radiation Meter. To measure neurodevelopment of infants, researchers used the Ages and Stages Questionnaire® (ASQ-3). It’s considered to be a highly valid, reliable, and accurate instrument — with over 1 million children screened globally using the ASQ.
🔍 Key Findings from the Research
- Infants in medium- and high-exposure households scored lower on average in areas such as gross motor skills, fine motor coordination, communication, problem-solving, and personal-social development.
- Those in medium- and high-exposure groups were over three times more likely to show delays in problem-solving tasks (3.67 and 3.12 times more likely, respectively).
- Babies in high-exposure homes were nearly three times more likely (2.74x) to struggle with hand-eye coordination tasks like stacking blocks.
- Medium-exposure infants had almost triple the risk (2.67x) of personal-social developmental delays.
- Emotional-social issues were most prevalent in the high-exposure group, affecting 11.5% of babies—compared to 0% in the low-exposure group.
